Ways to Workout During the COVID Pandemic

Enough has been said about this topic by reputable Bloggers and Vloggers, such as Alan Roberts and Swolenormous. However, I’ll add my 2 cents.

Find a way to keep working out. It does not matter if your intensity isn’t exactly the same or if you can’t do exactly what you are used to doing for your workout program. Just do something on most days. From that point, you can build.

As for me, I was somewhat depressed and anxious about the whole COVID issue when it started affecting my area a little bit. It was hard for me to find the desire to even workout at all. So, in the beginning about 30 days ago, I just made myself do something-anything-for 35 minutes total at least 3 days per week. It didn’t matter if it was mainly treadmill walking or if it was a random total body workout with light dumbbells, I just made myself do 35 minutes total.

After about a week of that, I found it easier to increase my intensity at home. I gradually was able to increase my intensity and have been back to lifting heavy for a few weeks.

Coronavirus Pandemic Workout Ideas:

  • Jumping Rope

I bought one from Amazon, I just haven’t used it, yet.

  • Bike Ride

I don’t have a bike, so I haven’t done this.

  • Walk/Run Trails or Streets

My adult college aged kid has done this throughout Corona. She did this before Corona, too. I did it before Corona, but don’t do it, now.

  • YouTube Cardio Vids

I haven’t done this since Corona started, but I have done it before. I did a search for Jane Fonda vids and did those on a day I felt super unmotivated to workout – the vids were super easy.

  • YouTube Home Workout Vid

There are actually several tutorials online now that demonstrate home workouts without equipment, including some that focus on strength training.

  • Break Out Old DVDs

I have Shawn T and Les Mills around here somewhere, but I haven’t used them yet this pandemic.

  • Zoom/FaceTime with a group of friends at a pre-appointed time to workout at home

My daughter does this with a group of girlfriends, one of whom is a PT and she offers this free service to her sister and few of her close friends.

  • Buy some equipment – Amazon, Walmart, Used Sporting Goods Stores

This is easier said than done, at this time. About a month ago, I was able to order resistance bands and a squat rack. About a week ago, everything was gone online. However, my daughter and I were able to find some limited weightlifting equipment at a local used sporting goods store.

  • Borrow some equipment

I scored an Olympic barbell and plates from a family member who wasn’t using theirs.

  • Dust off the dreadmill, I mean, treadmill you hate using

I’ve had the same used treadmill in my garage since around 2015. I used to use it rarely. But now I use it daily, due to Corona!
